Terms of Service

Last updated: May 15, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of MoonHost, a Minecraft server hosting service operated by the MoonHost team (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.

1. Service description

MoonHost provides on-demand Minecraft server hosting on AWS infrastructure. Servers automatically stop when idle to keep things efficient, and persist your world data on encrypted block storage between sessions. We support Paper, Spigot, Forge, Fabric, and other community server types via our plugin and modpack installers. The service is currently free during the open beta.

2. Account eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age in your jurisdiction.
  • You agree to provide accurate sign-up details and to keep your credentials secure.
  • You are responsible for everything that happens on your account.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use MoonHost to:

  • Distribute malware, exploits, or content that violates the law.
  • Host content that infringes intellectual property rights, including pirated software, mods, or paid plugins.
  • Send spam, run DDoS attacks, mine cryptocurrency, or run workloads unrelated to Minecraft.
  • Host content that promotes hate, harassment, or harm to minors.
  • Circumvent rate limits or any other system controls.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules, with or without notice depending on severity.

4. Mojang’s terms apply

Minecraft is a product of Mojang Studios (Microsoft). MoonHost is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Mojang or Microsoft. By running a Minecraft server on MoonHost you also agree to Mojang’s End-User License Agreement. You confirm acceptance of the Mojang EULA inside MoonHost before any server can be started.

5. Pricing

MoonHost is currently in open beta and free to use. No card on file, no charges. If we introduce paid plans in the future, we’ll notify all customers in advance and update these Terms.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of your worlds, plugins, configs, and any other files you upload. You grant MoonHost the limited rights needed to host, back up, and serve your content as part of providing the service. We do not access your content except where required to operate the service, comply with the law, or investigate suspected abuse.

7. Backups and data retention

  • You can export a backup of your server at any time from the dashboard.
  • Customer-initiated backups are kept for 7 days, then automatically deleted.
  • If you delete a server or close your account, your data is removed promptly. Any existing backups expire on their normal 7-day schedule, and short-lived log entries age out within 7–14 days. See the Data Deletion page for the full breakdown.
  • We provide no warranty against data loss. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything important.

8. Service availability

We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uptime. Maintenance, hardware failures, AWS regional events, and third-party outages can cause downtime. We do not credit or refund for routine downtime.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MoonHost is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 30 days before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $20.

11. Termination

You may close your account at any time from the Account page. We may suspend or terminate your account for breach of these Terms, suspected abuse, or if required by law. On termination, your data is removed per Section 7.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we’ll let you know by email or in-app notice. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

Plain-English note:These Terms are templated industry boilerplate. They’re not a substitute for legal advice. We’re working with counsel to refine them; this version is what we currently operate under.
